Ethics in trichology

Medical ethics can be traced back to as far back as the dawn of civilization with King Hammurabi setting down a code of ethics, rather draconian in nature. For the modern physician, the ethical guideline is the one enunciated by Hippocrates and for dermatologist similar guidelines are in place. Since trichology is relatively a new branch of dermatology, we need to have our own set of ethical codes. Broadly such a code can be discussed under four headings: 1. Our association with unqualified practitioners like beauticians. 2. Trichologist - pharmaceutical companies nexus. 3. Intellectual dishonesty, when it comes to publishing in journals and periodicals. 4. Procedures carried out on patients, not out of necessity, but a view to financial gain. Whatever code of ethics is formulated by societies, associations or similar bodies will be only guidelines but eventually each person should act according to the dictates of his/her conscience based on a general code of humanist morality.
